St. Pete Practice/ Qualifying discussion

Well the indycars are finally on the track at St. Pete! It looks like the transition teams are definitely being more competitive on this street course. It's only been fifteen minutes into the first practice and and three champ car drivers are in the top ten in the times.

Mark my words, Oreo will be on the podium Sunday afternoon!
you going to give "oreo" a glass of milk :) hee hee or do you mean Oriol :) hee hee
Wilson looked really good out there today. I see him ending up in the top 3 most likely. I think of all the former CC drivers, he has the best shot based on his practice times. Would be great to see the new teams coming over contending this week. I think that while they will take some time getting up to speed on the ovals, they're going to be competitive right from the start on the road/street courses, and I think that's what we're seeing from the practice times.
I think Servia and Wilson will both make the top 5 this weekend.
What about Mutoh's practice time? I sure didn't expect to see him third on the list. Wilson and Power I think are not a surprise at all.
Too bad Mutoh stuffed his car into a tire barrier at the end. :( I think he can be as fast as anyone, but I don't think he will be as consistent as the top drivers.
True, I don't expect him to be there at the end. But, there will certainly be no shortage of drivers that can run up front. As long as the start is clean, whoever takes this race will have earned it.
Strategy and pit stops will be huge, with on track passing so difficult.
i also was surprised by mutoh. .hopefully he holds pace. .was a bit surprised marco n dixon werent a bit higher on the charts. .im happy were tk is and hopefully gets pole. .im also glad to see "champcar" team in p4-6. .im loving this season already! n i dont think oriol will be podium!
I was on the SpeedTv forums and a post stated that COnquest Racing's last race may be tomorrow at St. Pete. This was said because COnquest RAcing's primary sponsers (Opes Prime, and Ares) were both missing from the cars at St. Pete. The person that posted this said that this was a rumor that was floating around the St. PEte paddock.. Take what you want from it, but this would be a disappointment to see COnquest Racing close doors because their sponsors walked on them. IDK take what you want from this rumor.... http://www.speedtv.com/forums/viewthread/212323/
This isn't too much of a surprise as disappointing as it is. Their sponsor is in a serious world of hurt right now. They're deep in debt and in some serious legal trouble. I don't think this will be Conquest's last race, just their last race for a while. Lets hope they can find a new sponsor at least for an Indy ride.
St. Pete's qualifiying had all the drama it could possibly have, Even if you aren't a fan of road/street you have to amit that was fun.
I wonder if it would be possible to renegotiate with ESPN/ABC so that the quals could be televised. I know they are streamed live from IndyCar.com, but I was out with family yesterday and couldn't watch. My TiVo could have though if it were on TV. :)
