The place for all INDYCAR fans

So, what does everyone here think about ending races on yellow? Should the IndyCar Series switch to the way NASCAR finishes a race if it would end with a caution? What are your thoughts?

It is hard for me not to vote yes for a switch. I'm a sucker for a dramatic finish. Though, in my opinion, pitting and overall race strategy is more important in IndyCar and thus running a one or two lap race extension for an exciting finish could actually compromise all of the hardwork and strategy a team has put into earning their position at that point of the race.

That being said. IndyCar is one or two exciting finishes away from growing back to where we were. To get there, you have to make changes. Show racing fans all over the world that we are willing to make sacrifice to give the fans a show. And anyways, it will be more exciting to see a green flag finish.
amen. finally some1 maks sense! :)
Hey, shit happens. Get over it. This is not WWE or Nascar.
I personally disagree. If it comes down to yellow then so be it. Incidents do happen in racing. I say leave it the way it is. A race has a set distance. Leave that distance set.
i agree.a race shuld never end undr cuation no matter wht b/c its called racing and all the drivers 1t2 get 2 the finsh line 1st and it suckx whn they r folowin the pace car at like 30 mph at the end.green white checkr all the way baby!!!

GO JR!!!!!!!!!!!!!
well it DOES suck whn a race ends undr caution if it was gonna ba a good finish imo
Even worse than a NASCAR race at Daytona or Talladega, having a green-white-checkered rule in IndyCar would be three laps of utter insanity that would be sure to quickly cause injury or worse. I like the rule in NASCAR, but it's just not right for IndyCar. Yes, fans deserve a good show, but safety first.

JMHO
This is exactly my concern. Do I prefer seeing exciting green flag finishes like the 2006 Indy 500? Sure I do. Am I willing to risk the lives of 28 drivers and the livelihoods of all the crew? Absolutely not. For the smaller teams, a devastating injury to their driver and a totaled race car could mean not just the end of the season, but the end of their business. Its not worth the risk just so we can watch 2 laps of mayhem.
And, funny enough, a couple of the "chases" since fans got mad at Matt Kenseth for winning the championship with only one race win would have been close without that format -- a system that I call nothing but "racing welfare" (and, the worst kind of welfare since it helps those who need it the least).

Funny on that, too...Benny Parsons won his lone NASCAR Cup championship with only one win. Do you think anybody would ever say anything bad about BP? Heck no, at least not while risking the loss of one's testicles! :-)

Do you all remember why NASCAR went to this rule? Mainly, it was because fans were throwing things on the track when a race would end under caution worse than now when Kyle Busch wins a race. One of the worst incidents was when Michael Waltrip won the Firecracker 400 -- I felt so bad for Mikey because here was another of his rare wins that was ruined by something beyond his control. While there is never an excuse for fans to throw things onto the track, I can in some ways understand. With the cost of going to a race factored into the aero-push era that NASCAR has been in for all too long, I can't totally blame those who want to see an exciting finish.

I also want to add this to the discussion. NASCAR has done a lot of things right and there are many instances where IndyCar could learn a thing or two about how to improve its business. On the other hand, IndyCar should never try to emulate every single thing that NASCAR does...not only because some of the things NASCAR does are stupid, but because IndyCar needs its own identity and because not every rule, procedure, and business strategy suits every type of racing car. For all of the reasons stated above on the "anti" side of this discussion (especially what xorpheous said), green-white-checkered is one of those things that IndyCar should not copy from NASCAR.

And, NASCAR could take some lessons from IndyCar, starting with having a dedicated, traveling safety crew! I fear that the France family will once again wait until tragedy strikes before they stop being such tightwads over that issue.

Rant, rant, rant... :-)
nascar is about entrtainmeant an drama as well as racin......the fans pay 2 c a good race not a sucky fnish w/ the pace car in front tahts not how nascar got big.it got big b/c its the most exiting racing in the world
You can have an exciting race and still end under yellow. The final lap doesn't make or break a great race. If that were true, then why run the other 198 laps at all? Just start them, let them go 2 laps, and call it a day.
jus so u kno...the cup championship was closr the past 4 yrs then it was the 1st 75 yrs or w/e they run
