The place for all INDYCAR fans

Guess Robin Miller will have a complete piece on Roth Racing changes this Friday--hope he writes it sooner because another site already says Roth Racing has been sold to a surprise owner. Now who will the negative posters complan about?

Well, this will be interesting (the rumor of a surprise buyer, etc.). I have to say, even though part of me can empathize with Marty Roth having a longtime dream to race Indy Cars and run the Indy 500 (I can see myself in his shoes if I had a ton of money), I truly hope he does not drive in the series any more. It's one thing to be slow, and another thing to have an apparent inability to handle a car. I don't think anyone could come close to Roth over the years for the number of spins and crashes. In the four Indy 500s he's competed in, he's crashed out of three. It's to the point where I'm getting concerned about not only the safety of the other drivers, but his own safety. I'd feel really bad if he got seriously hurt or killed. Also, you have to wonder how long the money will hold out. Being a privateer, with very little sponsorship, how much of his own fortune has he thrown away having to constantly repair/replace cars?

I never did hear any official follow-up after the Belle Isle race. Is it true that Brian Barnhart asked him to not attempt to qualify after he had a lot of problems in practice? I truly believe the answer for Marty is to either limit his role to just being team owner. But it sounds like he may be getting set to just sell the team?
Sell what team? A broken, patched together Honda Dallara and a bunch of spare carbon fiber replacement parts, some wrenches and jacks and his services? I can see him having a liquidation sale but team? There is no team in team, unless he holds and is selling Jay Howard's contract along with the car and maybe throwing in an engineer and mechanic or two.
Yeah, you raise a good point, Jim. Harkens back to my point about all the wrecked cars. Maybe it is an "everything must go, rock-bottom prices, make your best offer" deal....
He does have a top notch shop and equipment to sell.
When I asked Robin about Marty's confidence in his driving ability, Robin responded "there is a fine line between confidence, stupidity and reality" I thought that was cute. And the potential buyer of the team has an indy car background--not a novice and definitely not Donald Trump. I believe Robin will have the article out tomorrow.
I heard a rumor, that it could be a consortium led by John Andretti. That would be 'great' if it is true!
Other speculation out there is that it could be Derrick Walker....(just pure speculation, mind you).
According to Robin Miller, it is someone totally different than Derrick Walker or John Andretti--I sure hope he will announce the two new owners tomorrow, Friday--they are somewhat recognizable players.
Don't know if Robin Miller has reported anything so far today (10/10) about Roth, but in today's Indy Star, Curt Cavin, in his Q&A column, is talking about what he's heard. The most interesting thing that Cavin reports is word on the street has it the IRL told Roth they would not renew his license for next year, and he's furious.

Regarding potential sale of the team or equipment, apparetnly Rubicon Racing was one entity that expressed an interest, but Cavin says there have been others. Cavin gives the impression it's unclear right now just how things will proceed in that area. Go to www.indystar.com to access Cavin's column.
Iowa, If CC is correct, that is good news on a couple of fronts: it shows the league has budding nuts and it removes every other driver from unnecessary risk of being taken out. Roth was way better at avoiding taking people out than Duno but he still needs to hang it up.
With Roth gone, poor Milka will really be taking the heat. Glad I wasn't there to hear Brian Barnhart tell Marty there would be no license. Bet it was hard to hear--and deliver. Robin's words "there is a fine line between confidence, stupidity and reality." are so appropriate. But I honestly believe Marty thought he was getting much better at driving. One of Marty's crew members of many years, David, has been with Sam Schmidt for a year now and is very happy. I hope all the employees find a happy home. Crew members are so important. I did e-mail Robin as to why he didn't break the news and mention the potential owner names--still waiting for his response.
Curt Cavin has again updated the Roth situation in his October 12 Indy Star column. He now says apparently no one in the IRL office told Roth they were not going to renew his license for next year, but may have hinted it would be harder for him to renew. Cavin is still speculating that whatever may have been said to him has him pretty upset, and that may be while he's looking to sell out. I think there's a lot of rumor and uncertainty over just what transpired or will transpire here. Here's a link to Cavin's October 12 column:
