The place for all INDYCAR fans

I'm sure there are a lot of stories about Indy out there. What are some of your more memorable moments from attending the race?

For me, one of the more memorable race moments over my years of attendance was in 2002 when Robbie Gordon's pit tank blew the top off. The explosion was quite loud as we were not too far from his pit when it happened.

Some others were AJ hoping out of his car and banging on the transmission with a hammer after having car problems, various hand gestures exchanged between AJ and Mario during the race, and the domination of the Penske cars in 94 when they ran the Mercedes Benz engines.

Outside of the race, there are probably too many memorable sights to list. Until recent years where the track has become more "family friendly", there was definitely some wild behavior to be witnessed.

I still remember how loud the crowd was in 2004 when Danica was leading with 10 laps to go. It was incredible. I'd never experienced the crowd drowning out the sounds of the engines before!
I had almost forgotten that, but you are right the crowd noise was tremendous. I don't think I've ever heard the crowd that loud before either.
Yes indeed .... I still have goosebumps...it didnt matter WHO you were there rooting for... you were witnessing a part of History!!! We stood the whole time too (including the under yellow part) it was electric!!
That was huge.
The pass Hornish put on Andretti to win was amazing.
The battle between Fittipaldi and Al Jr. that left Jr. in wall was a great one.
A.J.'s 4th win.
Sam's pass of Marco ON THE STRAIGHT coming to the line was incredible! I sit in Section J at the exit of T4 and we all thought for sure that Marco was going to take the checkers when they went by and were astonished by Sam's pass as we watched the monitors!
I sit in H stands for Indy, so I know exactly what you mean!
I think the most memmorable Indy moment will happen this year....;) If you know what I mean....
That was definitely a huge Indy moment. Right after Cheever crashed during practice before qualifying, wasn't it?
The biggest one i have experienced was 2006 race which came down to the last lap with Marco and Hornish. Everybody around me was thinking Marco was going to win a race at Indy before his dad did, but Hornish got a hell of a draft and passed him on the front straight... The crowd couldn't believe it after that..
Another good one was the year Buddy Rice won in2004. That was a pretty cool race because it was the first American to win the 500 since Cheever.
May 26th 1985, Lap 120 In the chute between turns 1 and 2.
Danny Sullivan makes a banzai move to get under Mario Andretti and spins in front of him and hits NOTHING!
Goes on to win the 500.
What a moment.....
Every year Jim Nabors sings " Back Home Again In Indiana." Brings goosebumps. Hopefully he can make it this year.
