He makes some fair statements, although his comment about never getting back the NASCAR audience seems a bit unfair to me. As Curt Cavin always says, who would have predicted NASCAR's amazing success back in the late 80s early 90s. Anything is possible. And Kravitz does acknowledge that is will take many years. But I do like his comparison to other sports mergers, and how it can do nothing but help.

I just finished reading that article, and agree that Kravitz is unduly pessimistic.
agreed. although that is what he gets paid to do, is play devil's advocate and piss people off. But an oversight in my opinion is this line:

"The merger won't bring back Dario Franchitti, Juan Pablo Montoya or Sam Hornish Jr."

Well, there was a time when those three names weren't super powers either. As the sport grows and develops as a unified entity, new names will emerge and become stars.
Yeah, that was pessimistic....First of all, how many NASCAR fans were OW fans, who we need to get back? NASCAR's big boost came from casual fans, some of whom have started to drop away.
You have to realize that most of what Kravitz saying is legit- the only point i'd disagree with is the part where he says Franchitti, Montoya and Hornish not coming back to the IRL. However the rest of his editorial is spot on in my opinion. Who, outside of the casual hardcore race fan, knew other drivers in the IRL rather than Helio and Danica Patrick? In my opinion, Kravitz was speaking from a realistic standpoint- The IRL has a lot of work to do in order to get to a point where it is somewhat of a household name, but in time, with good leadership this will come.
