The place for all INDYCAR fans

I'm betting right now, the France family is working to get Danica out of her Andretti Contract with maybe the exception of the Indy 500.  She is worth toooooo much to NASCAR--did anyone see the great Montoya/Danica Trackside show on Speed Friday night?  Did anyone see the crowd at the Vegas Nationwide race last night?  I understand that after only three events, she ranks 5th in merchandise sales.  And, Danica appears to be truly having fun while she is working on this new NASCAR challenge.  And, as cash strapped ALL the Indy car teams are--including Andretti--maybe Michael Andretti could make a TON of money off this release--just a thought folks--from a dyed in the wool open wheel race fan.  BUT I'm realistic, too.

She is doing just like I said she would. Bringing up the back of the pack if she finishes at all. She's in it for the money. As usual, the Indycar series has no clue how to advertise their series. They have tried to promote Danica until most of us were sick of hearing about her. With only one win under her belt, and that was given to her by Helio, I still think she is overrated. If she didn't have her looks, no one would be giving her all this attention. Personally, I hope she finishes last in every nascab race she ever races in. That's what she get for leaving her fans and the series who helped make her what she is.
Excerpt from Dallas ESPN site: ".....The lines in front of the four-time NASCAR champion Gordon's souvenir trailer were two people deep. The lines in front of Danica's trailer, making only her third career NASCAR start, were 40 deep. The American people (or at least the fans at Las Vegas Motor Speedway) have spoken.

In talking with an executive with one of the biggest merchandise companies in the sport, I learned that Danica souvenir sales already rank among the biggest names in the sport -...."

Danica likes and is best at driving ovals and ICS keeps adding road and street courses. NASCAR seems to have been much more accepting of Danica than open wheel. Too many open wheel fans are sniffy and bitchy about the cute, spirited girls getting attention but Americans love underdogs and she will be an underdog till she ever wins a championship and a lot of people are rooting for their underdog.
Joe, sure it is about money--Danica came from a stable, middle income background--every extra dollar went into Danica's karting pursuits. And, isn't this Capitalistic society all about money? Were you that upset when Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon, Dave Blaney, Robby Gordon, etc. etc. left open wheel to pursue fame and fortune in stock car racing? And what will you say about Graham (never even in a stock car) Rahal when/if he pursues a career in NASCAR? And regarding looks/name recognition--would you rather look at the Star of the movie "Precious--200 pounds plus" or Ashley Judd? and tell me--would Dale Earnhardt Jr. be the "Star" he is, if his last name wasn't Earnhardt? Heck, with his lack-luster talent, no one would be paying any attention. At least Danica has done this ALL ON HER OWN--you are right, however, about Indy Racing League not knowing how to "market" her--they couldn't market God in an indy car and know how to do it. I'm hoping IZOD and Randy Bernard shows them how it is done!
Wilsonfan, I know you're a huge Danica fan and probably don't like what I have to say about her, but I don't agree with you 100% either. To answer your question about the other drivers. I have stated many many times I can't stand the fact that these other drivers made a move over to nascab. Gordon was never in the IRL, but it's a shame open wheel didn't try and get him in this series. As for Stewart and the others. I wish everyone of them would finish in the back of the pack. I'm a true blue open wheel fan. I want whats best for this series. I only wish the powers that be felt the same way. If Graham goes over to the dark side, I hope he finishes in the back of the pack with Danica. Again, it's a shame Indycar isn't doing more to make sure he doesn't make a move. As far as Earnhardt Jr. goes. He has been riding his dads coat tail for years. The hillbillies love him because of his dad. He seems to be another overrated drivers that the hillbillies in the booth just love.
I never said Danica didn't have talent, and didn't do this all on her own. But the fans of Indycar have been behind her, and now she's looking at nascab. Where is her loyality to her fans and this series that they have shown her over the years? I agree, I hope Randy Bernard and IZOD are a true blessing for this series. But until we get more ovals and more American drivers, this series is going down hill. Two American drivers in this series with a full time ride is a joke. The way it's going we should call this American F-1 or little F-1.
As for the whole Danica topic, we can just agree to disagree. I'm not a fan of hers like you are. I like her looks, but have never liked her attitude. Even last year when she tried to act nicer, it sure seemed forced.
I'm sure it was 90% women of the 40 deep. Women will follow a woman racing in a man's world. Ovals are a piece of cake to drive. Does that tell you anything? Try shifting 20 - 30 times a lap and see how you do. This why Nascar when they brag about having the greatest drivers in the world many of us laugh.
Danica is the current "Bright Shiny Object" in N-Word. The reality is she is not performing where it counts - on the track. She made it into the Las Vegas race only because her owner burned up some points from last season to buy her way in. The only reason Danica was even mentioned in coverage of yesterday's race is because she was Danica. If any other driver had crashed halfway through and finished only one position ahead of where they started, they wouldn't even have rated a mention. In testing at Barber, Danica finished behind a rookie woman driver. In the end, I believe this N-Word move is going to cost Danica her ride in both N-Word and Indy Car.
Don, I don't know if any of this is going to cost Danica a ride. But lets face the facts. People want their drivers to win. That's something Danica has not done...accept one that was a gift from Helio. Sooner or later people will get tired of spending their money on Danica shirts and hats and her not giving the fans a win. Well I say that, but I might be wrong. The hillbillies still buy all the little E stuff. My biggest complaint with Danica or ANY other driver that leaves this series for nascab is they are turning their backs on Indy fans. I was a huge Hornish fan, but could care less about him now. My biggest complaint about Indycar is the way this company is ran. It's a joke. My other big complaint is the type of tracks they are going to. If I wanted to watch F-1, I would watch F-1. This is America and this is the INDYCAR series. I want to see Indycars on ovals. That was the smartest thing Tony G. did in my book. I know a lot of people don't agree with me on that, but there are a lot who do. Time will tell if I'm wrong or right about all of the road/street courses hurting this series.
Sorry folks but this Danica thing has been a sham from day one,I dont care if there is a woman out there that can actually drive but this woman was never the one, couple that with Indycar hyping her to the max you would have thought she was the only thing that mattered to the Indycar fans. She turned out to be ALL fluff and no substance, she saw the writing on the wall and is making a quick exit to Nascar wher she can be an also-ran for the next twenty years and not lose a dime.We never saw any real duels between her and the other Indycar drivers on the track but she sure can stomp her feet and get aggressive in the pits. The only way she can win is apparently thru tricks and stunts involvong not pitting at all(Indycar only win) or staying out when the others are pitting and hoping for a yellow as we saw at Las Vegas this weekend. It will be refreshing to see the likes of De Silvestro in Indycar, she is a bonifide racecar driver and she doesn't strip at the drop of a hat.
I just started getting into this whole car racing thing this year, and after watching two races, I was already sick of hearing about her. People can badmouth and say that there are those that do not root for her just because she is female..... Now if a person roots for her because she is female, is that acceptable? and why?
I do not understand this hype of women racers. NASA has had women space shuttle commanders for years. Yeah compare the two, take 6 people and blast off from Earth, orbit in space, and actually enter the Earth's atmosphere again and land keeping all of them alive.... vs going roundy roundy in a car. I thought this whole sex vs thing died in the 90's.
Peace
