Permalink Reply by IndyCar Garage on January 11, 2012 at 4:11pm The 500 is now at Noon EST so it's possibly aslong the weather isn't a factor. The race traditionally is about 3 hours are so, so if you account for travel and prep, he could be on the ground by 5 EST and I think the green flag for the Fresca 600 is 5:45 if I am correct.
Permalink Reply by P. Niggity on January 11, 2012 at 9:52pm Noon EST? Fantastic for us on the west coast. I get super pumped at 9:00 in the morning. Woohoo! All my friends can come over and start drinking. What beer goes with donuts??? I'll probably have some raised glazed, some maple bars and some apple fritters. Do I go with an amber ale or a pilsner?
If they really want the NASCAR boys to run the 500, they will move the 500 to Saturday ........ yes, I said it - SATURDAY!! For those who want to invoke the "tradition" of running on Sunday, what traditions do you have left -
Not many -
* You now have cabs and bikes running at Indy ...... so much for it being hallowed ground.
* Indy is now a spec/single manufacturer series - okay, so we have 3 engine manufacturers - with engines putting out a puny 550 HP - WHOOPE DE DOO!! - The Acura Type R Integra I used to have was bumped out to 425 HP - a lot of street cars now put out far more than the next gen Indy engine - yawn.
* No innovation at Indy any more - thats what Indy used to be all about.
No if you want to get drivers from other series, especially NASCAR, you will make it easy for them to run at Indy - it would provide a big ratings bump as cab fans would tune in to see "their boys" try to knock off the Indy Car drivers.
Permalink Reply by Gilbert K. Arnold on January 12, 2012 at 6:40am DoE Put the race date for Indy back to May 30th (the real date of Memorial Day) like it was before the feds created that ridiculous three-day holiday weekend law... back then whatever day of the week the 30th fell on was race day.
Permalink Reply by IndyCar Garage on January 12, 2012 at 8:45am DOE - You give INDYCAR no hope, if you're going to complain, at least complain about the lack of ovals.
@ ICG - I am saying they if they want to bump their ratings way up, they should move the date to Saturday, to make it much easier for drivers from other series to run in the 500.
As for "NO HOPE", I already have none for IICS. It is nothing like what I grew up watching, for the reasons I listed above. For those who say "Get over it! Stop living in the past!" - No, you people need to re-examine what made you watch Indy Car racing in the first place and compare it to what you have now, And stop patting yourself on the back because you think you are "open minded" - it is YOU who have openly supported the downfall of what was once the greatetst type of racing in the world.
Remember 30 years ago when the cars had 1000 HP and "push to pass" was the drivers foot?
Permalink Reply by Eric Karas on January 12, 2012 at 5:20am Wow. Word is Sebastian Bourdais and Katherine Legge will form Dragon as part of a revitalized effort by Jay Penske....nice.
Permalink Reply by IndyCar Garage on January 12, 2012 at 8:43am updated to include Bourdais and Legge
Permalink Reply by Iowa Guy on January 12, 2012 at 11:06am Word on the street has it that Dragon will have Lotus power this year and the engineer will be Neal Fife, who was Bourdais' guy with Coyne last year. Jay Penske has moved the operation to So-Cal, and official announcements detailing 2012 are expected any time now.
After a terrible 2011, looks like Dragon is set to make a big comeback.
Permalink Reply by Linda Willareth on January 12, 2012 at 1:41pm Having G. Pantano be an Indy Car driver is like a dream come true for me--years ago, on a kart track inside Charlotte Motor Speedway, he made his first trip to the states to compete with the best karters in the states. Obviously alot older now, he is absolutely incredible as a driver. Goood news for Indy car.
