Former INDYCAR driver Danica Patrick will be a guaranteed starter in the 2012 Daytona 500.
Stewart/Haas Racing has entered into a collaborative partnership with Tommy Baldwin Racing where TBR will field the #10 GoDaddy.com Chevy for all 10 of Danica Patrick's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races in 2012. The alliance guarantees a starting spot for Patrick in her Sprint Cup debut the 54th annual Daytona 500 on Feb. 26 at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway. For the 26 races where Patrick is not scheduled to drive, David Reutimann will pilot the #10 car, in an attempt to keep the #10 car in the top 35 in owner points. As long as the #10 is in the top 35, Danica does not have to be concerned with "making the race" on time. A great advantage for anyone in CUP racing.

This should be worth two additional ratings points for the Great American Race. The former face of IndyCar bails from the INDY series and moves on to a bigger and better future (and riches).

She is a media darling now in a way she could never be in IndyCar.
Permalink Reply by Iowa Guy on February 1, 2012 at 5:23pm You guessed 'er, Chester! People are going to get tired of reading this from me, but Danicamania NASCAR edition is going to be more insane than anything we saw in IICS.
Permalink Reply by RaceFan on February 1, 2012 at 1:01pm That's the reason I started this thread. I knew you guys would not be able to resist going into attack mode.
Something else we can agree on, Reutimann deserves better. But he took what was available for him.
Permalink Reply by PJ Kirschbaum on February 1, 2012 at 6:45pm Actually, being form a nascar background (as in former crew member in the then Busch Series) I look at it as a win for TBR. The amount of money to buy points ( from the previous year top 35 team) can be very high. If it ensures the continued existence of TBR , Im all for it.
Danica? This is a cruise for cash, plain and simple.
Shes not , never has been, nor ever will be a 'racer'. Shes a 'driver'. Ride around in the mid 20-30's all day, toss in some pit strategy, and viola a top 10-15 at the end of the day...
..just like she did in the ICS.
The person I really do feel for is Zippy. Im guessing after 4-8 races with her, he's going to wish he was still nurse maiding Logano. LOL
