We had the great pleasure of speaking with the 2011 Firestone Indy Lights Champion, Josef Newgarden. Josef speaks with us about his decision to transition from European racing, where he was very successful in Formula Ford and competed in the GP3 series and was offered a spot in the FIA Young Drivers Academy, to American open-wheel racing in the Firestone Indy Lights series with Sam Schmidt Motorsports. The 2011 season had its ups and downs for Newgarden, and he shares his thoughts of the very high moments such as his victory Indianapolis and how he made it through the tougher stretches.

Permalink Reply by Michael Eugene Johnson on November 17, 2011 at 5:09pm okay, all you people who gripe about "not enough American drivers" support this guy!!! He's American, and he's fast! I'm as proud an American as you can find, but I want the best drivers, no matter where they're from. I do however, understand the Yankee sentiment. Good luck Josef!!!
Permalink Reply by xorpheous on November 17, 2011 at 5:19pm You're right! Josef is an amazing talent! I'd really like to see him get that GoDaddy ride at Andretti next season. Don't know if that will actually happen or not, but I think he'd be a good fit at Andretti.
