And I thought the Hulman/George family always ALWAYS said that IRP or whatever you want it called would always have the revenue from the Nationwide race.  So much for that tradition, huh?   "We will never take the revenue from IRP for the Bush (Nationwide) event.  What's next?

Needless to say IRP wasn't happy.Grand Am runs Fri.,Busch,(or whatever) is running

the oval Sat.and NAPCAR will put on their usual snoozer on Sun.I'm standing by my earlier statement.Give NAPCAR a taste of their own medicine & give them the boot.& schedule IICS on the road course.

We'll have to see how the turnout,or lack thereof compares to last year.

I attended the press conference today and it was very interesting.

It's good for IMS because they need a strong second weekend to complement the month of May.

Does this help INDYCAR? Well IMS owns INDYCAR and if IMS is bringing in more money, then it helps the bottom line of INDYCAR.

Remains to be seen whether it helps IMS,or not.
NASCAR desperation? Sounds like the D word is being applied to the wrong organization. More like a sound business move by the speedway to generate more revenue to help support the cash poor IndyCar series. Nothing desperate about a series that drew 115,000 fans last weekend and has a sellout (107,000 seats) this weekend, plus positive TV rating, on basic cable no less.
It may look empty with only 50,000 at the speedway to watch the race, but that's (at least) twice the crowd at IRP.
Three different races will be held on NASCAR weekend at IMS? Well over 100 race cars at the speedway. And it doesn't take a month to get them all qualified and the races run. Now that is a terrible thing to offer race fans!!

And if you can't be there, it will all be on TV.  I just wish INDY had lights.

Thought I spelled desperation wrong. Can't help my partiality to Indy.Didn't they

have 200K there at one time in the past?

Also a big Indycar fan. Only racing I can't get into is motorcycles. At Daytona the 500 draws around 160,000 and the July race less but always a big crown. The Cup or Nationwide series doesn't need to fill every seat at the Speedway to be a success. Those races don't have anywhere near the payout of the Indy 500.

But empty seats never look good. What's the first thing we check out on TV at an IndyCar race, the size (or lack of) the crowd.

Great crowd at Iowa, but then it's was only about the same as what Nationwide draws at IRP.

IndyCar will again be a success one day, but the series needs all the help and support it can get.

Thank Microsoft for spellcheck!!

It sure does.I guess only so many fans love ovals. It's a real shame.

It's just like HS & Coll. basketball, here. It's changed for the worse,IMHO

to us old-fashioned Indiana boys.

Believe it or not, I'm from Evansville, Ind.

I kind of live in the North now (Northern Va. anyway). I can see our Nations Capitol just across the Potomac.
