Robin Miller is reporting that Newman-Haas-Lanigan is signing Milka Duno, and Robert Doornbos. Doorbos is no surprise, but Milka???

I thought I'd seen everything...

Helio was in the news long before tax evasion charges. He was on Dancing With The Stars, late-night TV and getting tons of attention for his driving and personality. You must have met Milka on a good day as she is anything but courtious to fellow drivers, doesn't know good sportsmanship either. Just ask Danica how kind Milka is.

I hope she is a better author than she is a driver. Commentators are there to judge the quality of her driving and same with fans. While her humanitarian work may be great it doesn't get press as it's not "news" It's no the story. Her driving and performance in the IRL and for NHL or in the past is.

The IRL isn't benefiting financially from Milka competing nor is she drawing people in to watch the sport. In fact it's been detrimental as those who thought the IRL was a joke now have more ammunition now that she's at NHL. The pressure is on her and NHL to show this wasn't a monumental mistake to drop Justin. He could race circles around her.
GD,

Look at where Helio dancing moves and late night TV got him, a broken engagement and a federal indictment by the government. Milka is has been in movies, written books and has a more diverse racing background. I haven't seen Milka on a Bad day, because I always seen a good day, I have seen her generosity to fans, media and other drivers on a race by race account. Danica started her own battle when she walked into someone elses pit. Danica creates drama by herself, she did it with Wheldon first by grabbing his arm and then marching into Milkas pit. She needs to mind her own business.

The IRL doesn't benefit from Milka? I don't know how you can say that when they promote her in the first 500 to feature three women.

I don't know if you just can't stand Milkas driving or her lack of experience, but Milka does plenty of good things in this sport that often be over looked.

I am fan of the SPORT, promote the positive things and don’t pick on the negative things. That’s the problem, too many people find things that are wrong before they look at what is positive and good.
See my response to CC820. I agree to disagree with her fans but you can't ignore facts. Helio's driving and or exposure haven't a damn thing to do with his marriage failing or tax evasion trial. His poor choices and or stupid moves off track have. He's innocent until proven guilty but it's highly likely he will go to jail. I'm happy for Will Power but not for the circumstance that brings him to Penske.
The BEST drivers in the world have won Toronto. Michael Andretti has the record with 7 wins. Bobby Rahal, Emerson Fittipaldi, Al Unser Jr., Alex Zanardi, Franchitti, Cristiano da Matta, Paul Tracy, Bourdais. You can't say that any current IRL track in the currrent Indycar series that started in 1996 has that. We're rich in open-wheel history. Toronto is the place to be come July.
From the article...

The native of Caracas, Venezuela has been sponsored by CITGO for a rumored $5 million but is thought to have another big sponsor on board for '09.

Leaving the big issue of Ms. Duno's "talent" aside just for this particular post...

I will be very interested to see if CITGO completely leaves Duno or remains as an associate sponsor. I will also be interested to see who this other "big sponsor" is and whether or not it is a nationalized Venezuelan company. If CITGO or some other "Hugo Chavez, Inc." is part of this package, I wonder what the reaction will be toward the other major sponsors of NHL?
I would love to see Milka succeed. Biggest leap for her is staying clean and not making contact; with anything, walls, cars, pits, birds, random trash on the track.

But I do agree with Press, she is great for the sport and maybe this is the edge she needs to have her racing match her generosity.
I would be willing to bet $$$ she will be out of the series after this year. She has no business racing in our series. money or not she has no talent and is a danger to the other drivers on the track. i am not saying she isn't a nice person or not fan friendly but she can not drive at all period.
I agree with CC8820. Milka may be a wonderful person off track or not but it doesn't matter when it comes to the IRL or race day. What matters is her performance and skill and in this case the lack thereof. She doesn't belong with NHL and hasn't shown that she is anywhere near the caliber racer they have employed.

I agree to disagree with others who are her fans but let me reiterate she's done nothing for the IRL's image or marketing. In fact those who think this series is a joke have more ammunition and reason not to tune in because of this. Plain and simple she's a "ride buyer" and didn't get to NHL in any other fashion than that.

Like CC8820 said she cannot drive PERIOD, doesn't belong with NHL or on track and s a danger to everyone. I mean c'mon she's at least 5 miles slower than anyone else. They parked Marty Roth permanently why not her? Every driver out there has a problem with her being on the track. Feel free to be her fan or disagree but there's the facts. Neither fan, journalist nor fellow drivers think she dserves this spot. I only hope Justin Wilson winds up with a kickass ride. He's not deserving of being dumped for her.
Just a reminder folks... Milka has raced in only18 races in her IndyCar career. Consider what teams she's driven for. Samax, and Dryer and Reinbold, not eactly the class of the field. Let's see what she can do with a good team and a good car under her. She may surprise us all
I'm willing to bet the house and car she won't.
Milka would really step up her game if she could follow Danicas footsetps of Modeling. It would be nice to see her in the digs Danica has in the SI. Swimsuit issue!
ICG:

Milka doesn't have the looks of a centerfold or swimsuit model. She's not ugly but just doesn't have the looks for that job. Take one look at Danica dressed to the nines and to look attractive, eye catching and sexy and your heart will race. I really want to know why you're a huge fan of hers and defend her dangerous driving and conduct. All the drivers/fans despise her. What stands out for you? I'm just curious as I've never encountered a pro-Milka fan before. Not to offend you but you're in a small minority that actually thinks she's done something positive for the IRL.
