Zach Veach has been participating in the Mazda-supported Formula Car Challenge Winter Series and has been schooling everyone. He won the first two races at Sonoma from pole, and in today's qualifications at Fontana, he was 7.4 seconds faster than P2 on a 1m49s lap. Incredible!

Well that was water. Apparently Zach has excellent car control and feel for the rain. His DNF in race one will require him to come through the field for race 2. Interesting situation.
Permalink Reply by xorpheous on January 22, 2012 at 10:51pm I thought 7s sounded fishy, too. I asked the Formula Car Challenge folk if there were perhaps any JATOs strapped to Zach's car. They said that he was simply hooked up and giving a clinic on racing in the rain.
As it turns out, starting from the back didn't affect him too much today. He still beat the field by 15s at the checkers. Very impressive!
