The place for all INDYCAR fans

was aj foyt right when he said the irl was turning into CART lite? it certainly appears that way. i mean more and more street/road courses, less and less american drivers in american series and confusion over future engine/chassis plans? i don't quite get what the hell is going on. its sad when rahal and hilderbrand are being left out for sato and viso? come on

Hey folks, the handwriting is on the wall !! The 'once proud' Indy Car is being turned into a street machine -- how long can this madness continue before the lights go out ?? I have nothing against street and road racing BUT let them stand on their own. Indy Cars are designed to run on 2 mile ovals; it seems as if the IRL is AFRAID to schedule these longer races -- perhaps for fear of diluting the Indy 500. Some years ago the 'grand slam' of open wheel racing was proposed but seemed to die on the vine -- is the 'greatest spectacle in racing' worried about a little competition ??

I've watched the NASCAR publicity push with IRL's biggest attraction -- and boy does it work. What's wrong with the IRL -- the press coverage at Daytona and California was overwhelming adding 30 to 50% to the audience -- LET'S GET THE LEAD OUT and oh yes, they're on ESPN, Fox and SPEED. How many of you will be watching VERSUS ???
Like CART, it is--and as for paragraph two--NASCAR hypes their star attraction--Indy Car ignores the Star--go figure--Mr. Flashyone--your post is soooooo very right on!
NASCAR -THE BUSINESS MARKETING PLAN THAT IS THE ENVY OF THE SPORTING WORLD
Once proud?? What the hell does that mean? The fans bring the pride & right now the fanbase is low, compared to the NASCAR juggernaut. TV goes with what sells beer, cars & home improvements. I can't argue with the exposure Cup gets & you just know they're gonna ride Danica for all they can get. She got the majority of the pub in Indycar. If she was a homely looking woman her OW career would already have been over. The sponsers salivate over her because she sells stuff, simple as that. IMS stands on it's own & is not nor ever will be "AFRAID" of any other venue. There's no other track like it nor more challenging to drive it, that's the "special sause" of Indy. There is nothing wrong with adding R/S courses. You must enclude fans that like this type of racing. I wasn't a big fan of twisties but have grown to like them. Publicity is the biggest down side of the ICS & has always been. There are but a few major sponsers on the sidepods of the Dallaras, all the rest are obscure contingencey supporters. This is sad & I don't know what the future will bring but I'll always be a fan. I get VERSUS & they do a great job with all the extra coverage. At least they show you the start of the race, not 10 laps in. I wish more cable companies would provide it.
HOMELY GIRL?? I THINK NOT AND SHE CAN DRIVE, HAVE YOU LOOKED A THE POINT STANDINGS THE LAST 2 YEAS HAHAHAHA
If they do go the way of cart, it could be the end of the Indycar series. There is not enough interest in road/street racing in America. That's just my opinion, but look back at cart. It failed. There were more reason than the type of course they were on, but I think that did not help. Look at the money lost and the attendance at the road/'street courses. They are both down. I think most Americans would rather watch fast cars on fast ovals, and would rather see American drivers behind the wheel. There is a reason napcrap is so successfull. I don't really want to hear the crap about the best drivers behind the wheel. Just because a driver is from a different country does not make him a better driver. We have great drivers in this country. They just need to be given the chance. I'm not a Jeff Gordon fan, but take him for example. Indycar screwed up when they didn't go after that talent when he was young. There are plenty more like him. I have 100% faith that the morons running the show for the Indycar series can screw this up. They already have a worthless tv deal for probably about 99% of the U.S. What's next, drop tv coverage, only race on road/streets... Wake up IRL.
to be honest joe. you ain't wrong the versus deal is a brilliant example of this 10 years with a small network? no one get hd net why didn't they go with them? it's really worked for the nhl hasn't it? they started there own tv network. couldn't something of been done with milwaukee they talk about heritage there it is. more interesting than a street race in brazil. but most of the money and drivers come from brazil. indycar is becoming a place for drivers not good enough for f1. so they bring there money here cause the dollar is so weak. IndyCar needs strong management. Bernie would be good? any remember f1 in the 1970's or 1980's? strong leadership goes a long way.
alot of these guys can race in f-1 but they cant raise ENOUGH money. like everything else in racing, money talks sad but true
he was right but then auto racing has passed him buy, new teck , and big budgets have pushed out the good old boys.you cant do everything yourself like the old days, its a shame that AJ cant get a major sponser with his name, one of the all time greats in auto racing .road course and street courses out draw ovals now days except indy and (texas where nascar ticket holders get irl tickets). the versus deal will be the endall to indy car racing, i dont even get it anymore with my dish tv package, how can anybody get excited, i know i cant
RAHAL , HILDERBRAND OUT SO FAR ,WHAT A SHAME AMERICAN TALENT GOING TO WASTE BUT THERE JUST ISNT ENOUGH CORPORATE MONEY ANYMORE TO SPONSER RACING-- LOOK AT NHRA EVEN THE SPONSER KING JOHN FORCE CANT GET MONEY TO KEEP A 4TH CAR RACING ANYMORE, HE CARS ARE BORING, THE ENGINES ARE BORING AT LEAST NASCAR PUTS DIFFERENT GRILL DECALES ON THEIR BORING COOKIE CUTER CARS HAHAHAA, NOW AS FOR THE DELTA WING CAR WHO THE F CAME UP WITH THIS IDEA HAHAHAHAHAHA
I appreciate the talent it takes to do well in all the different tracks on the schedule. But I do miss not seeing Michigan, California, Milwaukee, and Nashville. But the street courses make it more a weekend event and draws better. Also what hurts is most of the better ovals are owned by people who are in alliance with NASCAR. Even if they do put a race on the schedule, it's a bad date and poorly promoted. The TV situation is what it is and I hope Versus does for Indycar what ESPN did for NASCAR back in the early 80"s.
But if you recall Indycar racing was still more popular and profitable when CART was running it and they schedule was varied. As much as I'd like to take it a step further and have a couple of dirt-car races like in the old days it'll never happen. I just hope the new leaders of Indycar make better decisions on marketing, competetive rules, and somehow find some way to get more American drivers. Make the drivers shine and promote the heck out of them.
Al, A few more tracks that would be great for this series would be Vegas, Atlanta, Lowes. Those tracks were made for these cars.

You stated the" streetcourses make it more a weekend event and draws better." If it draws better, then why did they lose money last year at some of the street courses? Were those races sold out? We go to the Chicago race and it's sold out. We used to go to the Michigan race. It was not sold out, but it seemed like every year there were more people there. I think the word was getting out what a good race it was. It's a shame the tracks don't even try to advertise these great races. At least I don't hear any commercials for the Irl races.
As for your remark about the irl getting bad dates at the tracks. What do you mean by bad dates? It's summer, warm weather, weekend, what's bad about that? I didn't know July 10 is better than July 17. As for the dirt track...I don't want to see that. This is Indycar, they need to be on 11/2 or 2 mile tracks. They need to be running all out. We need more than one engine, and we don't need a stupid looking delta wing car.
Oh yea, and if cart was so great, it would still be around. It wasn't.
