IndyCar Garage

The place for all INDYCAR fans

Looks like I will be driving to Indy (4 1/2 hours) for the fundraiser "night at the Museum" Jan 11. Sarah Fisher, Dario, Tony K, Helio, Ed Carpenter, Donald Davison, Jack Arute, Al Unser, Jr. will be reflecting on their memories of Indy racing. This should be a very small event that will allow an opportunity to ask questions either in public or in the stand-up cocktail type portion of the event. Everyone should be relaxed--certainly no race day stress. DO YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS YOU WOULD LIKE THESE DRIVERS TO ANSWER FOR YOU. Post them on this site and I promise I will get them answered for you. These folks should be in a really affable mood so let's see what we can get answered. By the way, services for both protestants and catholics occur in the garage area on the Sunday morning of every indy car event--look for times and locations on posters everywhere or ask. They are very motivational--they are not created as autograph opportunities for fans; but I highly recommend your attendance. Bill Hill, the minister, is very uplifting. By the way, lets hope 2010 is a terrific year for us all!

Interseting post Wilsonfan, I will be sure to shoot you one in the next few days
Do you know how many people usually attend this event? Will you be able to post video or photos onto your profile, Wilsonfan?
This is the first such fundraiser by the IRL ministry so I have no idea of how many people will be in attendance. I'm guessing it will be a rather small, intimate event. The drivers will be in Indy because the next day, Jan 12, there is a required driver, owner, team manager meeting with the indy racing league. $125 will be a "turn-off" to some people; this terrible weather will probably keep some folks from driving to Indy--but I could be pleasantly surprised and see a large turn-out. I do hope it is a financial success because the ministry is privately funded through donations and they need the money. Since it is a casual event, I won't be taking any photos or videos--but I'm betting there will be ample opportunity to ask questions of the celebrities. The Saturday of Indy 500 weekend, behind the Pagoda, there is a question/answer session for former drivers and celebrities and I'm guessing this will also be incorporated somehow into this event--I know I want to ask Jack Arute about Versus, NBC and comcast and my inability to get it on my Direct TV. I want to ask Tony Kanaan if "money, sponsors, politics," were no obstacle--which driver would he like to see added to his Andretti team--it is just a "fluffy" question. I want to ask Sarah Fisher why she doesn't take a kart, road racing class at Bob Bondurant Race School and learn better road racing skills. She is definitely not too old to learn new skills. I intend to ask Dario the same question I'm asking Tony K. So there you have it. It is minus 3 here and minus 15 wind chill--Terrible winter--Anxious for St. Petersburg to get here!
Last night was the fundraiser by the Indy Racing Ministry at the Museum--very well done event--attended by around 200 guests--nice turnout for the first time--300 is the maxium number for the Museum, so make plans for next January's fundraiser--The $125.00 per person donation gave us the chance to eat the largest shrimp since Sam Schmidt's May fundraiser, lots of great free wine, fresh fruit, appetizers and fantastic deserts. Lots of silent auction items to bid on and a few private collection pieces of rare Indy memorabelia. This was the largest collection of indy drivers ever in the museum at one time; and because it is "their down time" we had ample opportunity to visit with anyone we wanted. My question for Scott Dixon was "if money, politics, etc. were no object, who would you want on your current team as an additional member--he quickly replied "Tony Kanaan--I then asked TK whom he would want as an additional team member--he said "Michael Schmacher--talked with Scott Goodyear; Al User and his son who hopes to have an Indy 500 ride in the works for this year; and Gustov Yacchum (sp) great looking guy--he is working on an indy ride with some team but wouldn't say. Sarah Fisher was there, Helio, E. J. Viso, Ed Carpenter, Dario -- several locals with their 8x10 photos needing autographs--it was a great evening and my compliments to Paster Bob Hill of the Indy Ministry--make plans to attend next year--I'm sure it will be a sell-out! And I've got to give a shot out to Penske's Tim Cindric as the best looking guy at the event!
