The place for all INDYCAR fans

Was nice to see so much time devoted to an "almost extinct" racing series on Wind Tunnel last night.  Mike Kelly, public relations guy for IZOD, was an excellent interview--they know what must be done to expose their clothing line and this valuable knowledge should benefit Indy Car Racing greatly.  And I admit, it was generous of Wind Tunnel to devote so much time to the series last night.  Last month, I ordered a dress shirt from Indycaronline--and the shirt is really nice--guess I'll look closer at IZOD merchandise when I go to the malls,  I hear everyone leaves Wednesday for Brazil with alot of instructions for personal safety--Hope the event is a huge success!.

Linda, For those of us that did not or will not get Wind Tunnel, could you give us a precis of what Mike Kelly had to say about advancing the series? THX
Try going to the podcasts of the show at SpeedTV.com--just remember, Mike Kelly, works for IZOD, not Indy Car--he did state their expertise lies in clothing and marketing--not chassis, engines, race direction. and he reminded Dave Dishpan that the Versus contract was signed long before any IZOD involvement but that several sports including hockey and bullriding would like to see the Versus issue resolved, too. He mentioned several times IZOD's goal of getting the driver's stories out there. IZOD finds the driver's stories captivating, and I honestly think we are going to be seeing alot more of individual drivers--their personal stories--and I personally hope we see some of TK's six-pack abs, etc. IZOD caters alot to the 18 to 24 age group, and IZOD knows what that age bracket likes--x-game excitement--over the top stuff--and Mike Kelly considers going 230 mph as an over-the-top experience so I think we will be seeing alot more "in your face excitement" like that--their goal is to attract new viewers--IZOD knows the Indy Car Series already "has us" -- the sport needs to re-attract those 25 million folks--and he did remind us that the OLD DAYS ARE GONE--OVER--NEVER TO RETURN--SO GET USE TO THE NEW AGE--I got that message right between the eyes! Again, check out Speedtvfor a podcast. It is worth the effort!
Linda, I saw the interview also, and I must say I am very impressed and optomistic about the way Izod will market the series.
Most people weren't around in the 70's and 80's when the idea that the southern stock car series (also known as NASCAR) would ever be as big as Indy car racing was considered laughable. If the series is marketed right and can attract the 18-24 age group and recapture alot of the fans who were lost during the open wheel split, we could be on the verge of a huge rennaissance of Indycar interest in this country as well as around the globe. Of course many problems exist, but I think the future could be very bright!
I didn't get to see the interview, but my take on this series is this. Until they get the Versus issue solved, this series is stuck in the mud. About 1% of America can watch the races. No way is that enough to grow this series. Not when you have napcrap shoved down your throat almost 24-7 by other networks. And also to attract the 18-24 age group with the 230 mph speed, they have to get away from so many road/street courses. Playing follow the leader with speed up and slow down racing isn't going to attract the young ones. 230 mph is going to be on tracks that are 11/2-21/2 mile tracks...ovals. And last but not least, we need American drivers in this series. Anyone who doesn't agree with that is only fooling themselfs.
