I always liked A.J's comment before an IROC race at Daytona in the '70's-"If I don't win this race I hope no one does!" Dirt, stocks, champ cars he could drive it. I saw him race at Darlington his first time in the 80's. This was back when drivers who never raced there had to pass a rookie test. It was an oddity to see a former winner of the Daytona 500 and Indy 500, two of the biggest prizes in motorsports, have to take a rookie test in order to qualify for the race. Needless to say he passed on the first try.

when AJ won in 77 it was my fourth indy, I yelled so much that i could'nt talk for a week. I let himm know that a couple of years ago in the garage area
