What is done to maintain the cars off season? Do they fire them up periodically or are they torn down and reassembled with new parts, new engines etc? How much testing is done off season?
I think most teams do complete teardowns, replace parts that need replacing, incorporate new "bits" that they hope will increase their speed on the track and do wind tunnel testing (assuming they have the bankroll for it). Plus, they do tests at race tracks to see if their new bits actually work. I think Indy Car Series limits the amount on track testing, but I may be mistaken.
