I think my favorite IndyCar memory will be a little different than most. I have many friends who didn't grow up around Indy and attending the Indy 500. Most of them just don't get it, when it comes to why the 500 is so great. My best memory has to be finally convincing one of my best friends to come to the race with me.
Though every part of the race (including pre and post race activities) was great, I have to say there are a few memories I can point out from my friend:
1. Make sure your phone has enough memory. - I'm pretty sure he maxed out the memory of this phone before the green flag even dropped by sending pix messages and videos to his contacts.
2. There isn't enough time to get a conversation in when the leaders go by. - I'm not sure who he was calling, but I know there wasn't anyway he could get a word in, as he clearly underestimated how loud the cars were.
3. If you're sitting at the start/finish line, don't try to follow every car from turn 4 into turn 1 - Pretty sure he needed some physical therapy for his neck after 100 laps.
4. 300,000 people is a heck of a lot more people than you think. - "I can't believe how many people are here." is all I heard for about 3 hours.
Thing is. I go every year, yet I make the same mistakes year in and year out. I guess that's why it's THE 500.
